Pronomes Relativos
- Mike, is that Sonia in the red car?
- Yes, mom. And the man who is driving is her husband, Carlos.
- Mike, is that Sonia in the red car?
- Yes, mom. And a man. He is driving a car. He is Sonia's husband.
- I know that boy. He is a student in the school.
"Boy" e "he" é a mesma pessoa, portanto basta eu dizer:
- I know that boy who is a student in the school.
As orações adjetivas definem melhor pessoas e coisas.
- People who smoke live dangerously. (Pessoas que fumam vivem perigosamente)
- Shoes which leak are useless. (Sapatos que têm buraco são inúteis)
Orações adjetivas que se referem a pessoas são introduzidas por who (that).
- This is the man who stole my bag!
- I need car which is reliable.
- We threw away everything that was left. (Jogamos fora tudo o que restou)
O pronome relativo "whose" corresponde a cujo/a(s).
- He is the man whose wife had the car accident...
- use who quando houver: sujeito + who + verbo
He is the man who is my Spanish teacher.
- use which quando houver: objeto + which + verbo
This is the table which was painted last week.
- use whose quando houver: sujeito + whose + sujeito
Tom is the journalist whose we met.
* Pessoas: who
* Pessoas versus pessoas: whose
* Coisas/objetos: which
Obs: é comum usar "that", porém de maneira informal. Além disso, ao se referir a pessoa prefira usar "who" a "that".
- "That's the car which I bought" ou "That's the car that I bought".
- "Helena is the woman that made the cake" ou "Helena is the woman who made the cake".
